Meet the Artist

Ever wanted to know more about the talent behind our prints? Come sit down with us as we chat with the artists, and learn more about them and their day-to-day life.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I am a self-taught artist, with a background in teaching and computer networking. I have been married for 21 years, and I am a homeschooling mom of three. I have always loved art and drawing. I wasn’t encouraged to pursue art as a career, so I never thought it was an option for me. After taking some time off to raise my children, I decided to explore my love of art on my own. And here I am!

How long have you been creating your art?

I have always had one hand in the proverbial “art” cookie jar my whole life. But started seriously pursuing a career about 4 years ago. I was born with a creative streak, and I can’t imagine living without it.

I love to experiment with different mediums and styles, and I’m always trying to learn new techniques. I’m never content with sticking to the status quo. My goal is to create something that people haven’t seen before, and make them feel something in the process.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Growing up, I loved spending time outside and was constantly inspired by the natural beauty around me. Even now, as an adult, I find myself constantly drawn to nature. The peace and quiet of the rural area around my home in Loudoun County, Virginia is a constant source of inspiration for me.

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve seen your art on?

What’s the most exciting thing my art has been on? It’s not what you would think. I love seeing my designs in stores like Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, and Home Goods – but crafters and makers turning my designs into their own unique creations is my favorite. The fact that someone would choose my designs out of all of the thousands they can choose from is always an honor, and will always be my favorite part of being an artist.

What is your favourite art style at the moment?

I love the more vintage art styles. I love how the older art styles invoke so much history. So I work with digital watercolor, alcohol markers and try and let the drawing styles of antique children story books guide my designs. It’s really interesting to see how these different art styles can influence my overall design aesthetic.

And finally, where can we find you?

You can find me through my Instagram page @AmandaGraceDesign and my website www.amandagracedesign.com

When I am not drawing you will find me homeschooling my kids, and working at my second full time job – my kids taxi driver to sports practices and games! LOL

I hope you enjoy looking at my work as much as I enjoyed creating it for you.
