Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi there, I’m Lisa a surface designer from Ireland. I live here with my husband, three children and 2 fluffy white cats. When I’m not drawing or looking after my family, I love to ramble around the beautiful countryside of my native County Wicklow in Ireland. I spent many years working as both a web and graphic designer before finding surface design. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else as I’m completely hooked.

How long have you been creating your art?

I’ve always been creative and spent my youth drawing and painting. Somewhere along the way I stopped painting so often, but it was after my children were born and I was on maternity leave that I took up drawing again. I’ve now been working as a surface designer since the Summer of 2020 and feel like I’ve found my calling. I especially love designing for fabric and the endless opportunity for creating new designs.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I’m inspired by so many things, flowers, nature in general and all the beautiful things around me, but what I create comes from within. What I design depends on how I feel and what I’m trying to achieve with each design. My work is rather eclectic and has a mix of styles and moods and that’s just the way I like it.

What's the most exciting thing you've seen your art on?

The first time I received swatches with my fabric on them was so exciting, but I’ve also loved seeing my designs come to life on things like cosmetic bags and totes. It’s really amazing to know that people have bought my designs on fabric and then make something new out of it.

What is your favourite art style at the moment?

I have lots of favourite art styles. I really do love the Art & Craft Movement, and also Art Nouveau, but sometimes the more simple and soothing motifs and colours are what catch my eye and inspire me to create.

When you're not creating, what do you get up to?

When I’m not creating, you can find me hanging out with my husband and kids or walking around the forests, mountains, parks or seaside around where I live. We’ve so much great scenery, so there’s always interesting places to go. Occasionally, you might find me hiding in the corner trying to read my book in peace.
