Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi, I'm Fleur the creator & artist behind Hufton Studio. I am a Textile & Surface Pattern Designer & a mum of two little ones based in Auckland, New Zealand. I love good food & a good puzzle. I worked 19years for some of New Zealand’s leading brands in commercial and high fashion in the fashion & textile industry, I decided to create my own brand Hufton Studio. After having my first baby & was seeking to find a new balance between family & being creative. Since then I have thrown myself into the wonderful world of surface pattern design & art licensing. I have always been creative & loved art & fashion from a very young age. I now work full-time in my art studio juggling the kids/family life, it started out as a way to have a creative outlet and slowly moved into me working on Hufton Studio full-time & not returning to my design job at the time. I have had some really lovely collaborations but I did really enjoy my collaboration with Loomwell Home Goods, Geometry House, PBS Fabrics & more. It was so exciting to see my designs come to life.
How long have you been creating your art?
I have been a designer for 20 years in the fashion & textile industry but I have had Hufton studio & designing for myself for the last 3 years
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I am inspired by the world around me & I love taking lots of photos on walks & when I am out & about to capture the beauty & use it for inspiration when I am back in my studio.
What's the most exciting thing you've seen your art on?
So many things but two of my favourite are wallpaper & baby products/apparel
When you're not creating, what do you get up to?
I have a young family so I am normally spending time with them swimming or gardening
