Eye Pillow
Sew Along With Us
Dive into the world of soothing relaxation with our easy sewing tutorial on creating a versatile Eye Pillow. Perfect for reducing stress and helping to relieve headaches, these lupin filled eye masks can be used as a hot or cold pack, offering a gentle, calming weight over your eyes.
What you will need:
- Woven Fabric (we used our very own Botanical Birds in cotton twill for the pretty side, and a simple plain dye cotton for the other side). You will need enough of each to cut out the eye pillow and you will also need a piece that is approximately 5cm x 90cm.
- 38cm of 8-12mm wide elastic (of course make it longer or shorter to suit your head size - or omit it altogether if you dont want to strap it to your head)
- Sewing machine, matching thread, etc
- Eye mask pillow, available for download here
How to make it:
Cut out the paper pattern and trace it onto your 2 fabric pieces. Cut these out and also cut out the 90cm x 4cm long piece for your strap
With the strap, fold it in half, right sides together and sew along the long edge.
Feed the fabric back through itself to have the tube of fabric the right way out. Using a chopstick or a safety pin is always an easier way to do this
Feed the elastic into the tube. Make sure you secure it at each end so it doesn't get lost in the length.
Take one of the eye mask pieces, right side up, pin the elastic and tube to the other sides, then place the other eye mask piece on top, right side down. Pin in place.
Sew around the outside of the eye mask, making sure that you leave open a section of the mask for turning AND dont sew the strap anywhere other than each end
Flip the mask out so that it is the right way out
Fill with the desired amount of lupins
Sew closed.
And that's it! You now have a weighted, hot or cold, eye pillow.
