Cloth Cuts linen would have to be one of my all-time favourite bases. It’s a dream to sew with, cool to wear AND doesn’t crease as much as you would think being a linen blend.
I’ve made skirts, dresses and tops all for myself and they rotate pretty frequently through my wardrobe. Which also means they get washed pretty regularly.
The darker background linen can sometimes show an unavoidable printing flaw where during the process there is some fluff that gets sandwiched between the fabric and the ink. Then when the fabric is washed for the first time, this fluff is then lifted off leaving behind small specks of the original base colour. So while this isn’t a huge game-changer to me, if it’s something that would annoy you – I’d definitely recommend picking a print with a lighter background colour.
As I mentioned briefly before, this is a linen blend. Made up of 70% viscose and 30% linen, which basically means that because of this composition the fabric is much softer and less likely to crease (which is the perfect combination in fabric really). And the drape on this fabric is amazing, it falls softly and avoids that awkward stiff pleated look.
Our linen has the traditional texture to it, with the most gorgeous of weaves making this fabric anything but bland. It’s soft against the skin and cool to wear – which is a huge thing living in South East Queensland. But still appropriate to wear all year round.
So next time you’re shopping for some fabric, try putting some linen in your cart. You won’t be disappointed.
Our linen is a blend of linen and viscose, resulting in a softer fabric that is also less prone to wrinkling like 100% linen would. Linen is a great option for a lot of sewing projects, from blazers to skirts, dresses to home decor. It is also breathable which makes it a great fabric for all seasons.
